(More customer reviews)I bought this card because my 9800GTX+ card was having overheating issues and I was tired of it shutting itself of during certain 3D-heavy games. I knew there'd be a performance drop because my 9800GTX+ was a pretty expensive card when I got it in '08.
However, a lot of the games I play now are from 2007/2008 and earlier so I thought I'd give it a chance. Plus, since it didn't require special connections to power or a fan, I figured it'd run much cooler.
All I can say is don't even bother. Using a 3DMark '06 score BEFORE I took my old video card out and AFTER I put this new one in, I can say that I experienced about a 85% DROP in performance.
85%!!!
About the only thing the card is good for gaming-wise is storing large textures (it has a lot of RAM). But even when I tried to play something like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (an older FPS title) I had to turn the resolution and settings so low it literally looked like an early X-Box-era game. :/
Luckily, I was able to return the card to Amazon, minus the S&H fees.
