I upgraded from a XFX 5770, which was starting to be pretty stressed at 1920x1080. Rift is a great example: 20-25fps, slower during large battles, and this was with the fan going full out at 100%. I decided to get the MSI card because of the Twin Frozr cooling system. Yes, it may be a silly name, but the difference it makes is anything but silly. There is, simply put, a massive difference versus reference designs, especially where fan noise is concerned.
My CPU fan (I have a large, quiet Noctua cooler) is louder than this video card. I can't even hear it, and that's while playing games with everything maxed and full out. This card is also very easy to overclock, and supports it very well thanks to the massive coolers. I can't even believe the cooling performance - this card hasn't gone above 50C with everything I've thrown at it, and it is simply WHISPER QUIET. My R5770 used to hit 85-90C with 100% fan usage on the same games, same settings.
One caveat is that this card is BIG: almost eleven inches long (275mm). I have an Antec P180 and it's a full two and a half inches longer than my old XFX 5770. I had to take out the second drive bay to get everything to flow nicely, but I didn't mind this at all. You'll also need 2 6-pin PCI-E connectors and a good power supply (>550W) but you probably knew this already.
Simply put: This was a HUGE upgrade from the R5770. I am seeing at least 2x performance in most games. I can run Rift with everything maxed out, all options on, and get 60+ FPS in most zones. And that's with no noise at all, something two 5770's in CF would not be at all.
Trust me, it's worth the extra money for the Twin Frozr cooler, especially with the rebates that MSI has been doing recently ($25 off).
I was getting used to hearing hair dryer-esque noises from my Radeon...no more. For 1920x1080, there's nothing better, in my opinion.
