(More customer reviews)When I got my daughter the Asus Eee PC 1001P-MU17-BU 10.1-Inch Intel Atom Netbook Computer (Royal Blue) for her birthday, I got her a case to go with it. I knew a netbook without a case didn't stand a chance with a 10 year old - even if that 10 year old is pretty good about taking care of her stuff.
When I originally found this case, she didn't like it at all. (I actually found it in hot pink first - which I loved!) She wanted a blue case - but not this one. Sorry, mom's wishes won out since mom's money was being spent. The case arrived the day after the netbook, and we both now like it very much.
It's a durable little case - but the main selling point for me? It was one of the few cases I could find that has straps to hold in the netbook. There are two clear plastic straps sewn diagonally at the top (to hold the monitor portion), and two black elastic straps sewn diagonally at the bottom (to hold the keyboard portion). That was a huge selling point for me - most of the netbook cases seemed to be the envelope style, where you slide the netbook in and out of the case - leaving the netbook unprotected while in use. (Not good around kids.) The only thing I would change about the straps? I would replace all 4 of them with a nylon-type Velcro system. You place the netbook in, wrap the straps around it, secure the straps (and netbook) with Velcro, and there you have it. Since the plastic straps don't have any "give", and the bottom ones are thin elastic, they don't hold the netbook very well and it's hard to maneuver the netbook in and out. (Due to the lack of security from the straps, it's always coming loose.)
I like that it fits a variety of sizes - which would still be the case if the manufacturer used the Velcro idea. I also like it aesthetically - and it's very easy to wipe clean. It has a shoulder strap, which is nice - and the zippers are capable of holding a small padlock if you need to put one on.
There is not much space for storage. It has an outer pocket for the charging cable - but you put the cable in and a very small 4 port USB hub, and you're out of space. I would not get this expecting to be able to store anything more than the charging cable. As long as that's all you put in the pocket, you'll be fine. It would also hold some flash drives...but load it down with anything else, and you won't get it zipped.
Would I buy this product again? Yes. I haven't looked at cases locally, only on Amazon - and since I didn't want the envelope type, I'm happy with this one. If I were the designer, the outer pocket would be more expandable - and the inner straps would be customizable. Other than those two small issues, this is a great case. Even though we haven't tried it, I'm sure a larger netbook (possibly a small notebook) would fit in this case. Great price at around $25 - I would never pay over $30 for it. :)
