This is the newer, slightly slower, and less power hungry version of the original 9800GT. The original 9800GT runs at 600 MHz while this version runs at 550 MHz. The original version requires a 6-pin supplemental power connector to the card while this version does not. If your computer power supply unit has the 6-pin supplemental power connector, you probably should buy the original 9800GT (look for 600 MHz or higher) instead of this.
My Dell computer's PSU is rated only at 300W and has no 6-pin connector. This is just about the most powerful card you can get without a 6-pin connector. This card draws 75W at full load. Zotac includes a program called Firestorm that can overclock or underclock the card easily. I definitely will not overclock. If my games hang or my card runs too hot in the future, I might even consider underclocking the card to about 500 MHz since my PSU is the weak link. After 1 week of gaming, the card never got hotter than 70 degree and no hiccups. The fan stays at low speed (with auto setting) and is very quiet. You can use Firestorm to set the fan to any fixed speed; but I prefer the auto speed setting. Firestorm's display is all scrambled if your Windows font is set to "large" (120 DPI) instead of "standard" (96 DPI). Instead of Firestorm, you can use RivaTuner which is much more sophisticated and powerful.
Amazon's pictures and description indicate two DVI and one S-Video connectors at the back. The box also says so too. However, the card actually comes with 1 DVI, 1 HDMI, and 1 VGA connectors; which is actually the better configuration. The box also says a 6-in supplemental power connector is required; which is obviously wrong.
You may also consider the 1GB version instead of this 512MB version (about $18 more here in Amazon). In games such as Grand Theft Auto IV, you will find some visual options, such as distance object clarity, that can use up card memory rapidly. By the way, more RAM on the card does not use up too much more power, probably just 2 or 3W.
