(More customer reviews)My biggest gripe with this is its price. I've purchased nice Gigabyte motherboards for under fifty bucks, and this costs half as much. The card is very tiny, and only contains the NEC/Renesas uPD720200 chip (about 1cm square) and a few caps and such.
On the plus side, USB 3.0 is great. This card installed without any fitment problems. The included drivers were, of course, old 1.x drivers, but I quickly Googled some newer 2.x ones. The drivers installed absolutely painlessly under Vista without even requiring a reboot. The EVGA implementation also does not require a separate power connection.
As far as performance, it worked great supporting a conventional hard drive good for about 90MB/s. When hooked up to an Intel G2 SSD that I can normally get about 273MB/s, the throughput dropped to about 144MB/s or nearly half. I can't really say whether the hard drive bridge chip is the bottleneck or the EVGA NEC-based card or the motherboard. It is likely the hard drive bridge chip or just the software stack overhead. In all cases, compared to native SATA II, the USB was much more noticeably slower at small file reads/writes (about 1/4 speed), again, probably due to the USB stack overhead.
