(More customer reviews)I installed the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E7600 3.06GHz 3 MB LGA775 CPU, Retail BX80571E7600 CPU to upgrade my wife's computer (HP/Compaq dc7700) and soon realized that I would have to update the BIOS and Microcode versions on the motherboard (chipset Intel Q965). Luckily, the firmware is available from the HP website. If you are going to upgrade an older machine then I highly recommend updating the firmware before installing this CPU. And don't forget to purchase a thermal compound such as Arctic Silver 5. Using a thermal compound between the CPU and heat sink will avoid burning up and destroying your brand new CPU in a few seconds...
Also, I bought the faster CPU because I replaced the older Windows XP (32-bit) operating system with the newer Windows 7 (64-bit) and wanted to boost performance. I am happy to report that after installing the CPU and additional memory (Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5C 4GB XMS2 PC2-6400 800Mhz 240-pin Dual Channel DDR2 Desktop Memory) the system's performance has drastically improved!
I am very satisfied with this small investment in hardware ($222) and so is my wife...
